You know it’s the end of the school year at The Heart when parents are bringing boxes of Hooters wings for the students.

Just one of those days.
Student: Mr. Faas, can I fart on you?
Me: Get out.
He was serious. I was serious.

Student 1: I ain't in no mood for no 'proper grammar.'
Student 2: You ignorant.

Student: Miya Faw, if you had a son, what would you name him?
Me: Hm. Probably something lame like 'John' or --
Student: How 'bout 'D. Fizzle?' Or like, 'Lil' Fassy Faas.
Me: So he'll...be a rapper then?
Student: Oh nah necessarily. But if you have a girl you should name her 'Faasina.' You want your kids to be rappers?
Me: Only if they go triple platinum. Anything less will be a disappointment.
Student: That's the truth.

Student 1: King...David.

Me: All hail Ranch. No. Doesn't work. Try again.
Student 3: Hidden Valley.
Me: You're janking me now. No.
Student 4: Italian?
Me: Oh, you're so much closer!
Student 4: ...Zesty Italian?

Next Year

Family, friends, and other readers of this blog:

Although I like to reserve posts for quotes and short classroom anecdotes, I wanted to share briefly what I’ll be doing and where I’ll be going next year…

This fall, I’ma take my talents to South America.

For 18 months, I’ll be living, traveling, and teaching, mostly in Santiago, Chile.

I’ll spend one academic year teaching at St. George’s College in Santiago while earning ENL certification. The program is through ACE, and I’m grateful to Notre Dame and ACE for the opportunity.

I’m thrilled about this new experience and I’m certain it’ll provide just as many — if not more — blog-worthy moments. Hopefully I can keep that going for you all.

I’ll miss The Heart dearly though, and will continue to teach and post goodies from my kids until June.
